Literacy Initiatives

First 5 Forever

“Make talking, reading and singing with your child part of your daily routine—any place, any time”.

First 5 Forever is early literacy initiative based on the knowledge that “sharing stories, rhymes, singing, talking and playing with your child from birth builds a foundation for your child’s future development that can last a lifetime.” To promote this important message and empower families, public libraries are supported by the Queensland Government and State Library of Queensland to provide free resources and activities for zero to five year olds.

Programs
Here at Bundaberg Regional Libraries we host regular programs for the zero to five year olds and their primary caregivers. We also have special community based sessions periodically throughout the year, keep up to date with our social media pages for the most up to date information about a special First 5 Forever event in our region.

Resources
Bundaberg Regional Libraries also have a wide selection of free resources to share with babies and children including a range of picture books, board books and online resources that can be used and borrowed for free using your library card.

In 2019 Bundaberg Regional Libraries introduced three hashtags to be used to identify local First 5 Forever activities. These hashtags can be used by families and organisations that are taking part in talking, reading and singing with the child in their life. These hashtags can be searched and over time they will show the diverse and wonderful First 5 Forever moments from around the region.
