Artists make pictures of themselves to explore and express who they are inside and out. But before cameras and mobile phones, selfies weren’t taken — they were made! Taking time to draw, paint or build their own image through self-portraits, artists created selfies the slow way. If you couldn’t use a camera, how would you make your own slow selfie?
Inspired by artwork from the early 20th century, Slow Selfie invites visitors to experiment with chance, play and imagination to create unexpected self-portraits. Open daily during the Looking Out Looking In, Exploring the Self-Portrait exhibition, Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery welcomes families and makers of all ages to explore the absurd and surreal world of Slow Selfie in our ImaginArts space.
