Artists make pictures of themselves to explore and express who they are inside and out. But before cameras and mobile phones, selfies weren’t taken — they were made! Taking time to draw, paint or build their own image through self-portraits, artists created selfies the slow way. If you couldn’t use a camera, how would you make your own slow selfie?

Inspired by artwork from the early 20^th century, Slow Selfie invites visitors to experiment with chance, play and imagination to create unexpected self-portraits. Open daily during the Looking Out Looking In, Exploring the Self-Portrait exhibition, Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery welcomes families and makers of all ages to explore the absurd and surreal world of Slow Selfie in our ImaginArts space.
